So either the pilot did take 2 injuries and the game didn't tell me, or it only registered as one injury which is just wrong.ĭrascin you gotta stop trying to take out the CT every time, so you get more salvage!Īlso you may want to try removing a weapon or a couple heatsinks from the Shadowhawk to add more armor. Example: I take out a torso with an alpha strike and also have a head hit. It's either a shortcoming of the game or the UI, but if I have an attack that should give multiple pilot injuries, it only ever shows one. Plus on rare occasions, you can get some errant missiles to plink the head. Taking out a torso also destroys the arm, and causes a pilot injury to boot. I mean, I got one piece of Thunderbolt scrap, it's going to be a while until I can build one of those :P.Īnother tip: when I see 'porcupine' mechs with assloads of lasers, I can typically find the arm and torso with the most weapons and target that. Thunderbolt is a good solid mech to get your hands on since you can do a lot with those things I got one kitted out with a fuckoff massive number of machine guns to wreak havoc on mechs that have holes in their armor. I'm starting to think about beefing up its armor and using it as tank because everyone just shoots the Shadowhawk even if they have direct line to hitting the Vindicator in the back). Course, my best mech is a Centurion and they were fielding a gotdang Thunderbolt with two racks of big SRMs and a full kit of many, many lasers, so there were some equality issues involved, but careful abuse of the called shot's ability to delay people got us through it with only one pilot injury and five days of repairs needed on the Shadowhawk's arm (what is it with the CPU and Shadowhaks, seriously. That was pretty neat, four on four with the other guys also being damn competent. I always grab those sweet double heat sinks.įound my first Stubborn Surrender mission. And like everyone's been saying they can snipe hears clean off torsos. Beat that mission and the 2 Gauss (+ a bunch of other lostech, I think I got a + 20 large laser and a bunch of double heatsinks with it as well) will be yours as the reward.Īlso they are lighter than the AC20 and still do enough damage to where the difference between them isn't much. If you go after the brother at the end instead of the sister (who gives you pulse lasers) he will be in a Jagermech with dual Gauss. I got 2 Gauss rifles with 2 sets of ammo as a flashpoint reward for killing those crime siblings. (Edit: they're also better with heat and recoil) And like everyone's been saying they can snipe heads clean off torsos. I received 2 Gauss rifles with 2 sets of ammo as a flashpoint reward for killing those crime siblings. That certainly was not the case when I got a gauss rifle+ (reduced weight) on something like day 300 of my last completed campaign. ![]() So I'm harboring a secret hypothesis that that fixed it so that if you get the gun you get the ammo too. I saw get a Gauss rifle and its ammo as a flashpoint reward recently. If you can wrap your head around all that, you should be fine since the Gauss rifle is a fan-fucking-tastic sniper rifle who's raw damage is only challenged by the LRM 20 (which is probably not going to hit with everything and even if it does it's going to splash all over the place) or AC20 (which has more damage but less range and ammo). Like the AC20 they're huge and heavy so odds are you're building your mech around this thing in order to maximize it's value. They have a minimum range and if something gets inside of that envelope you're fucked without some strong tactics modifiers. They're basically impossible to find and that goes double for their ammo the only way to get them as far as I've been able to tell is to buy the Highlander model that comes standard with them.Gauss rifles are amazing as long as you remember there key weaknesses. ![]() I'm on the fence on this, but I do love the Gauss on my Highlander and I've been stripping AC/20s from my heavies and assaults to add more armor (granted, one of them is a Victor, so.). What are your thoughts on Gauss Cannons? I'm reading some other posts where people like AC/20 better because it's more damage for less tonnage but I believe they generate more heat?
